Brief Description

Job Purpose

This is a unique, career developing role, which will be suited to enthusiastic individuals who like to challenge the status quo and want to make a difference in the UK rail industry.
The successful candidate will have a background in mechanical engineering with an awareness of multi-disciplinary project design, development and delivery. A passion for innovation, sharing best practice, sustainability and a personal drive for improving the safety of the rail industry is essential.
Personal skills will create inclusive working environments with designers and contractors and challenge the conventional mechanisms of delivery. Confidence will be established by focussing on the NR remit and objectives to release the supply chain to deliver projects with trust and cooperation.
An Assistant Project Engineer is required to support the Project Engineers in taking forward the day to day Project Engineering. The projects will encompass extensive infrastructure works.

Working as part of a dedicated team, this role will be instrumental in ensuring the project is developed, designed and constructed safely, on time and to budget.

About the role (External)

Key Accountabilities
• Assist the Project Engineer in the preparation of specifications.
• Assist the Project Engineer in the supervision of design development and the checking of designs.
• Assist the Project Engineer in the monitoring of construction work to monitor compliance with design, standards, and legislation.
• Assist the Project Engineer in the development and maintenance of quality systems throughout the lifecycle of projects.
• Assist in the monitoring of project construction HSQE.
• Maintain a log demonstrating own development and achievements towards meeting the competency requirements to discharge the role of a Project Engineer.

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications
• Engineering qualification in a relevant discipline (GNVQ, ONC, HNC, Degree).
• Analytical and problem solving skills.
• Good communication skills (verbal and written).
• Understanding of railway operations.

• Appreciation of commercial and procurement procedures.

Network Rail adheres to a structured pay framework, any salary offered will be within the following pay range: GBP31,000 - GBP33,000 per annum
