Demand for our Data Centre services continues to grow both from existing and new customers creating a real career opportunity for a talented individual to join us at our Birmingham Data Centre as a DevOps Engineer working across Infrastructure and Toolsets technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to the design of Innovative solutions that bring efficiency through automation and orchestration with existing infrastructure and toolsets in DCS.
• Build and design code/script for deployment, automation and orchestration
• Review, update, and document DevOps technical solutions and code work instructions
• Provide technical support and documentation to DCS teams in the use of automated script and code deployed from the DevOps function
• Run, Operate and maintain platforms and toolset in line with IT Industry best practice
• Investigate and resolve platform and automation issues and Incidents in line with Incident and problem management process
• Build effective relationships with operational teams ensuring a True Development of Operations culture is adopted
• Work towards DevOps and Operational service governance procedures in place
• Identify and work towards Service Improvements.

• At least 6 years' experience with server architecture in an enterprise class environment.

Skills Knowledge & Experience

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated with a track record of working with a datacentre technology stack and an appreciation of Operational Infrastructure support. Experience of working in a fast paced, dynamic environment with a can-do attitude and able to handle work with multiple customers and projects. Candidate must have experience of working in a large solution provider with a forward thinking mentality to aid in continuous improvement


• Excellent experience within a number of the following core technologies:
o Infrastructure Operating systems (Microsoft - Linux)
o VMware/Hyper-V knowledge
o Infrastructure Monitoring and management toolsets
o System centre management suite (SCOM/SCCM)
o AV (Anti-Virus with key products being McAfee & Symantec)

• Experience and use of at least 2 core programming/scripting languages (VBScript, Powershell, Python, Java, JavaScript, Perl, Ruby, .Net)
• Public Cloud Experience within AWS and Azure environments
• Ability to understand a functional requirement and able to use creative and sometimes complex ideas to accomplish the requirements using technologies and scripting language
• Passion for Automation and orchestration within Enterprise Infrastructure environments
• Able to work as a member of a team but also work independently to deliver tasks as part of project related activity
• Understanding and ability to work within DevOps lifecycle (Build, Code, Test, Release, Operate, Automate, Maintain)
• Document new and existing processes, run books and scripts
• Understand and practice the change management ITIL process
• Excellent and demonstrable communication skills, both written and oral with strong presentation skills
• Ability to use the Service Management tool to manage incidents/changes/problems tickets
• Experience of working in a multi-client solutions provider
• Hands on experience


• Experience working with Devops tools and configuration management orchestration toolsets (Docker, Puppet, Chef, Salt, Ansible, Cloudformation )
• Experience of Cloud technologies including automation and orchestration toolsets (System Centre Virtual Machine Manager, BMC CLM, VCAC, Azure, vCHS, EC2)
• Working as an Infrastructure Engineer for a number of years previously and covering for senior engineers in times of absence
