Demand for our Data Centre services continues to grow both from existing and new customers creating a real career opportunity for a talented individual to join us at our Birmingham Data Centre as a Technical Specialist - Devops Engineering.

Overall Job Purpose:

To provide and develop proactive future improvements for Data Centre and Public cloud infrastructure platforms and customers. This will include design, configuration, code and release to support all Data Centre service clients and internal platforms and toolsets using Agile methodologies
To ensure all Internal platforms and toolsets are operating efficiently in an automated life cycle in line with functional and business strategies

Essential Duties of the Job:

Business Engagement

• Assist engagement with customers and Data centre departments to ensure code, build, design and release of technical solutions and improvements are in line with the requirements of internal department and DCS customers
• Assist in the requirements gathering process and Improvements phase including due diligence and analysis of the in place systems, processes and toolsets used today

Design , Code, Build and Release

• Design innovative solutions that bring value and efficiency to counter today, tomorrow and the future's problems
• Contribute to the design of platform service, DCS toolsets and customer infrastructures from conception to completion and release
• Code and script using languages suitable to environments and toolsets in use meeting design and functional requirements
• Build solutions and processes that enable Technical teams efficiency and automation bringing business value and better ways of working
• Contribute and adhere to internal governance and release processes ensuring stability of operational services while developing, building and releasing new solutions into live operations

Operate & Support

• Run, operate and Maintain internal Management platforms and toolsets used to deliver Data centre services Support to customers
• Work Closely and in conjunction with Operational Support teams in the identification of continuous Improvement opportunities
• Act as a technical escalation point for major incidents related to the management platforms, toolsets and automation in place where required

Automation

• Design, Code, Build, test and release Automation toolsets and solutions across Platforms, toolsets and Infrastructure to manual workloads across Data Centre Services
• Design, Code, Build and release automation of Reporting and technical MI information to enable effective and efficient delivery of services

Documentation

• Lead on the creation of technical documentation and automation runbook for all platform services and toolsets for the data centre
• Ensure technical documentation is completed to a professional standards

Skills Knowledge & Experience

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated with a track record of working with a datacentre technology stack and an appreciation of support and Low Level Design work. Experience of working in a fast paced, dynamic environment with a can-do attitude and able to handle work with multiple customers and projects. Candidate must have experience of working in a large solution provider with a rapidly expanding customer base.

Essential:

• Strong knowledge and background in at least 3 core programming and scripting languages (VBScript, Powershell, Python, Java, JavaScript, Perl, Ruby, .Net
• Strong background with core Virtualisation and Infrastructure services in large-scale deployments
• Strong knowledge and experience working within public cloud environments (AWS, Azure)
• Solid experience working with Devops tools and configuration management orchestration toolsets (Docker, Puppet, Chef, Salt, Ansible, Cloudformation )
• Automation of tasks and maintenance within Infrastructure environments
• Experience working to Agile methodologies and lifecycles
• Previous experience and/or certifications in core technology platforms (MS, VMWare, Citrix, Exchange, networking)
• Ability to audit and understand Infrastructure environment using various market toolsets and provide recommendations in line with industry best practice
• Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines

Desirable:

• Experience in continuous Integration/continuous deployment environments (Jenkins etc)
• Experience of Cloud technologies including automation and orchestration toolsets (System Centre Virtual Machine Manager, BMC CLM, VCAC, Azure, vCHS, EC2)
• Vendor Related Certifications in any other Infrastructure Environments
• Experience of working in a multi-client solutions provider
