The role: Specialist Support Professional for Students with Multi-Sensory Impairment (MSI) Overall purpose of role To provide specialist support for clients with sensory impairments in education or in the work place. To facilitate clients who are deaf, hard or hearing, blind or partially sighted to become independent through lifelong learning strategies. To signpost to internal and external services as appropriate. Main duties and responsibilities Provide one to one study skills tuition to clients enabling them to develop independent learning strategies To be able to adapt approach according to the changing needs of the individual client you are supporting whilst working within the Learning Support Centre’s Quality Assurance Framework Deliver tuition and coaching according to The Learning Support Centre guidelines and code of conduct to ensure tuition is delivered effectively A flexible approach to working hours is required. Occasional travel may also be required. Complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) for each learner Attend any relevant training or meetings and have the ability to develop existing skills Attend two staff meetings each academic year Contribute a minimum of two strategy base resources to add to the staff portal each academic year Advise other members of the team as required to support client progress and team development Always be punctual Manage paperwork effectively, i.e. completing time sheets and ILPs accurately and promptly Maintain a high standard of presentation whilst representing The Learning Support Centre If you cannot make a session you must advise The Learning Support Centre as soon possible, so that cover can be arranged Confidentiality should be respected to agreed disclosure levels Ensure that clients are happy with the support being provided, any problems must be referred to your manager immediately Inform The Learning Support Centre of any problems you are having that are either work related or effect your work, we can then help you come to a satisfactory conclusion or adapt your work to support your situation You will be expected to represent The Learning Support Centre in a professional and service orientated manner. This includes adhering to our stringent policies including those on confidentiality and safeguarding Actively managing personal development in agreement with the Manager. To undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required by The Learning Support Centre Key requirements: Experience working with people with sensory impairments in education and/or in the workplace on a 1:1 basis or to small group Able to assess learner’s needs and devise an appropriate Individual Learning Plan Qualified Teacher Status with a two years minimum teaching experience Educated to degree level Advisory Teacher for Students with Vision Impairments or Advisory Teacher for Students with Multi-Sensory Impairments or P GCE with additional qualification in a relevant Subject PGCE Qualifications Other teaching qualifications will be considered at Level 4 and above.
